10 Key Elements of a Professional Art Portfolio

As recently requested by some of FineArtViews' devoted readers, I’ve decided to share my experience of putting together a competent and effective artist’s portfolio intended to be presented to an art gallery.

Recently having my work accepted into one of this nation’s largest and most prominent art establishments, I’ve learned that putting my best foot forward - especially when it comes to submitting my work indirectly - is fundamental to my success...

My New Gallery

After researching the top galleries in the country, looking for the those that feature the highest standard of quality in art and service, I'm pleased to announce that my work will now be regularly represented by - and available through - Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art, in San Antonio Texas!

From the gallery's website:

Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art is a traditional gallery featuring nationally and internationally recognized artists, many featured in fine museums and prestigious collections. As one of the most respected galleries in the United States, Greenhouse Gallery has combined traditional art experience with the expansion to a 12,000 square feet location to create one of the largest retail fine art galleries in the country.

Experience the emotion and exceptional quality captured in fine oil paintings by 21st century masters.

This is an exciting step for me in my art career, and I feel that it's going to be a great collaboration spanning many years to come.

Please take the time to visit their website www.greenhousegallery.com, and look for my new work featured on the site in the weeks to come!

Discovering What Makes Your Art Unique

While being interviewed over the phone recently for an upcoming feature in SouthwestArt magazine, I suddenly found myself bemused and perplexed at my inability to intelligently answer a question posed by the woman on the other end of the line. It was a seemingly simple but very specific question that, although requiring an immediate answer, was not altogether uncomplicated in its design to produce what I felt should be a profound statement from me. While I admit that I thought a clever answer would never come to mind, at my earnest request I was graciously given some time to brood over the elusive inquiry and then get back to her.

The question: “What about your work do you feel is most interesting?”

Five Steps to Successful Networking for Artists

"I sometimes wonder: What would great master artists of old have thought of today’s technology and how it’s impacted the craft that we share along with them; How would this technology have affected them and their ability to market the great masterpieces that they created, and connect with like-minded artists of their day; and would more secondary artists have advanced further in their skill if they’d had had opportunity to chat with the likes of Michael Angelo via facebook? . . ."

Nurturing Right Connections

My recent FineArtViews.com article. Enjoy!

"So, a friend of mine finds a strange looking egg while taking one of his daily walks not long ago. After viewing the egg down at his feet - and wondering how it escaped it's nest and landed right in the middle of the trail he frequented - he came to the conclusion that it was an abandoned duck egg; and of course being the animal lover that he is, decided to make an attempt at hatchin
g the egg by placing it in a nest located in one of the many chicken coops that sit on his vast property. . . ."

A new favorite painting of mine that has become dear to my heart.

American Artist July/August 2009 Issue

As an artist, I find that there is nothing quite so encouraging as knowing that your peers and mentors are taking note of your work, and admonishing you for your artistic efforts. Not only does it confirm that you are headed in the right direction with your endeavors, but it also gives you a sense of being cheered on while moving forward into new territory.

One of the many ways that those who are a crucial part of the "Art World" today show their appreciation for [and recognition of] contributions made to the production, development, and furthering of art, is by promoting an artist's work [deemed worthy of such affections] through one or more of their many publications.

That being said, I am very excited, and completely honored to be sharing with each of you the following good news:

A detail portion of my recent painting, "Tea Still Life", will be gracing the cover of the July/August 2009 issue of American Artist magazine!

After many hours spent developing a cover design for this particular issue, the outcome is, in the words of one member of the American Artist's staff...

"One of the finest covers I have ever seen on our magazine in the years that I've worked here."

Please, be sure and get your copy of the July/August 2009 issue of American Artist magazine, on sale June 2ND!
Along with the cover photo is a feature article written by the magazines own Editor in Chief, Steve Doherty, containing full color photos of many of my most recent works.

American Artist Magazine

As my friends and family will tell you, one of my favorite things to do is read. Just put a good cup of coffee in my hand, dump me off at Barnes & Noble, and I'm the happiest guy in the world. And while I've enjoyed many a good piece of classic literature, I also often find myself thoroughly devouring art magazines. They aren't exactly considered exhaustive reading, but are often times (for me and countless others) chock full of advice, inspiration, and images of beautiful masterpieces, given and created by the top Master Artists of today. It is then with great pleasure that I share with you some most excellent news: The July-August issue of "American Artist" magazine (one of this nations top rated artist publications), will be featuring an article of me and my work! Be sure and get your copy of this issue, available wherever art magazines are sold, the end of May. For more information about "American Artist" visit their site http://www.myamericanartist.com/
